Our School ISC Lahore > 15th Anniversary

A Short History of ISC Lahore 15 Years in Pakistan,

1992 -2008

On September 15, 1992, the International School of Choueifat, Lahore opened its doors to 134 students ranging from KG1 – Grade 10 and Grade 12. Two weeks later, there were 250 students, and by March 1993 the enrollment was 400.

ISC Lahore welcomed 600 students in September 1993, and by June 1996 there were over 1000 students enrolled.

The enrollment remained close to 1000 students during the next ten years. However, since September 2005 it has risen steadily, and as of May 2008 it is 1459.

Early Years

Mr. Ralph Bistany, Director General of the SABIS® Foundation at that time, and his associates, initiated work on the site of ISC Lahore campus in 1991.  Mr. Bistany returned in April 1992 with Mrs. Leila Saad, President of the SABIS® Foundation at that time, to select staff  resident in Pakistan.

Mr. Bistany and Mrs. Saad took a keen interest in ISC Lahore and returned to Lahore for long visits during the first year to monitor progress of all aspects of the school.

At first, all overseas hire staff lived in rented villas, but by September 1993 the Hall of Residence on campus was ready to accommodate about half of these teachers.  Academic 2 was completed during the second year and the Sports Complex the following year.

The SABIS® System of Education

The SABIS Educational System was implemented at ISC, Lahore from the start.  In June 1995, the first three students were awarded the SABIS® High School Diploma.  Since that date 283 more students have earned their High School Diplomas from ISC Lahore and have gone on to distinguish themselves at universities around the world

Milestones

Two milestones in ISC Lahore’s history are as follows:

The granting of Equivalence to the SABIS® High School Diploma by the IBCC of the Government of Pakistan in April 2006.

The Accreditation of ISC Lahore by NCA CASI (North Central Association Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement) USA in November 2007, after successfully completing the candidacy period, which included a self study.

Academic Excellence

ISC Lahore is proud of its academic achievement.  It offers fifteen Ordinary Level courses and six Advanced Level courses of the Edexcel and Cambridge Boards, UK.  In addition, twelve Advanced Placement courses of the College Board, USA, are offered.

Edexcel UK instituted High Achiever Certificates in 1999 for students who came top in various O’ Level and A’ Level examinations. ISC Lahore students have won fifty-three Highest Achiever certificates from 1999-2007. Four students achieved “Top in the World”, Twelve were “Top in Pakistan” and the rest were “Top in the Lahore Region.” Our students’ performance was equally strong in the Advanced Placement Examinations of the College Board USA. Since May 2000, seventy-six students have won recognition for their exceptional achievement in the Advanced Placement Examinations. Thirteen students gained the “AP Scholar with Distinction” award; twenty-seven achieved the “AP Scholar with Honor” award and twenty-five have become “AP Scholars”. Furthermore, one student was awarded the “AP Diploma for Overseas Study”.

The Student Life Organisation

However, the SABIS® Educational System is not only concerned with student academic achievement.  It works to help students become strong personalities who are committed and involved citizens of their communities.  Students are encouraged to involve themselves in activities in school and to assume responsibilities through the Student Life Organisation (SLO™). Of course students benefit from this involvement personally. ISC Lahore students are notable for their self- confidence and initiative.  Examples of the unique aspects of the SLO are the management of a student-organized summer school for three weeks every year and a pool of shadow teachers in Grades 2 –12.

It is 15 years since ISC Lahore was founded.  During these 15 years the community that makes up this school--the students, the teachers, the administration and the parents-- have worked hard to make it the fine institution it is today

Mission Statement

ISC-Lahore will be recognized as a provider of top-quality education to a highly diverse student body. It will strive to help all students achieve their full potential, prepare students for success in college, equip them with the ability and desire for lifelong learning, and strengthen their civic, ethical and moral values. ISC-Lahore will maintain high standards of efficiency and accountability throughout its operation.

Admission & Registration

Admission & Registration

Guardians of new students applying to the school are advised to inquire about the SABIS® Educational system. A brief description is found in the school prospectus.

The SABIS® Educational System is highly academically-oriented without being highly selective. The criterion for acceptance in a class is academic attainment, not age. Although age acts as a limiting factor, it is possible to find a three-year age range in the same class. In general, any student willing to learn is accepted.
